Winterize Your Irrigation System
With freezing temperatures just around the corner, it is necessary to shut down or "winterize" your sprinkler systems to prevent damage. Winterizing purges your system of water and thereby prevents the components from splitting and cracking. Proper winterization starts with good design techniques. A well designed properly maintained sprinkler system is simple to service and adds many years to the life of the sprinkler system. Winterizing your sprinkler system is as important as having antifreeze in your car. Water that remains in your equipment can freeze, expand and rupture the sprinkler piping and walls. Freezing water in the backflow assembly will damage the internal components and could crack the brass body.
At time of winterizing, we will also inspect the main shut off valve. This valve must close fully if not your sprinkler system will fill back up with water. If this needs replacement we will inform you at the time of service. Taking the necessary steps for protecting all parts of your sprinkler system will not only protect it for this coming winter it will also minimize any repairs in the springtime.
