At this time, Long Island is experiencing a moderate drought with little or no rainfall for July, August, and September.

Temperatures are above average with 54 consecutive days of daytime temperatures above 80 degrees!

It is important that you water every day for a minimum of 15 -20 minutes for sprays zones and 45 – 60 minutes for rotary zones. In some cases you may have to water even more especially for very sunny areas with sandy soils. I like the cycle & soak method that requires you water 2 cycles per day for improved application of water. Golf courses use the cycle & soak method all the time.

If you live in a water district that requires odd/even day watering than increase your watering to 20 -30% using the water budget feature on your controller or increase the watering per zone use the run time. Water at this rate until the weather cools down or it begins to rain or both. When you lawn and landscape look green and healthy you can then reduce your watering and your frequency.

Now is a great time to have your system evaluated! A weakness in your sprinkler system is much easier to detect under these conditions. Please call 631-423-2211 to arrange a convenient appointment or schedule your appointment online now.
