It is officially spring, and the days will become warmer with each passing week. In a few weeks the lawns will be turning green, plants will be flowering, and trees will begin leafing out. At this time, we are recommending that you activate your sprinkler system and have it ready for when you begin watering. When we activate your system, we use the following checklist:

  1. Turn on the main sprinkler valve and slowly fill the sprinkler main and valve manifold.
  2. Check for leaks in the sprinkler main, plumbing, and valve manifold.
  3. Inspect backflow device for damage and leaks.
  4. Test backflow device if required.
  5. Turn on each sprinkler zone and check for broken or missing sprinkler heads, broken pipes, and leaks.
  6. Turn on each sprinkler zone and check adjustments, proper rotation, and spray, crooked and or misaligned sprinkler heads.
  7. Check the wiring at each solenoid valve for proper connection and damaged wiring.
  8. Turn on each sprinkler zone manually at the controller to insure proper on/off operation.
  9. Program controller for spring watering.
  10. Visually inspect rain sensor.
  11. Evaluate sprinkler system performance and make recommendations.

Please be aware that your sprinkler system was designed and customized to your landscape and property requirements. Over the years, due to changes in the landscape, there may be additional items that require attention. The spring turn on of your sprinkler system is to address the proper functioning of your equipment. It is time consuming and labor-intensive effort.

Please schedule your appointment as soon as possible and allow us the time to serve you.

Harsh winters, like this past winter, have a negative effect on irrigation equipment and there may be damage to your system due to freeze/thaw of the earth. Also, please be aware that older systems require more time and effort to operate properly.

Please note that at the beginning of the season we program all controllers for the proper day and time. We place the dial of the controller in the “OFF” position. When you are ready to begin automatic watering simply turn the dial to the “ON” or “RUN” position.

A beautiful landscape is a valuable investment and the cost to maintain a sprinkler system that sustains a healthy landscape is far less expensive than replacing lawn, shrubs, and trees.
