The short answer is – no. Irrigation in November is not required and in Nassau County a violation of their sprinkler system code. In November the temperatures are cool/cold, the days are short, and the landscape has slow growth. Grass is barely growing and the trees are losing their leaves. The soil has sufficient moisture to provide all the H2O that plants require. There is very little evaporation and moisture is replaced from the 1-2x/week of rainfall. If you want to save money from water costs and prevent overwatering then shut off your sprinkler system now.fall

I strongly recommend that you arrange to have your sprinkler system winterized as soon as possible. November can be a tricky month with regards to temperature. I can recall many years when the temperature dipped below freezing and caused damage to the system as well as to the landscaping. Also, water on pavement freezes quickly and creates a dangerous situation as well as a liability.

Please call our office at 631-423-2211 to arrange to have your sprinkler system winterized. Or you can email us irrigationspecialist@rainrich.com. Until we arrive please turn your controller to “off” and, if possible, turn off the main water valve to your system.
